| Documentary photographer and founder of Naamehnay Project Inc, Carlan Tapp, will be riding his trusty Harley for 3000 miles around the "Grand Circle" of the Southwest beginning June 4, 2012. Ride in Beauty is a non-profit Fund-Raiser for Naamehnay Project - Question of Power, a 501c3. The mission of Question of Power is creating visual voices for individuals, families, and communities affected by the extraction, production, and consumption of coal for the production of electricity in America. | |||||||||||||||||||

Tax-deductible donations received in support of Ride in Beauty will continue to provide funding for:
1. Education and public awareness of the health and environmental issues surrounding the extraction, consumption, and generation of waste materials in the burning of coal for the creation of electricity in America. 2. Create and provide educational curriculum materials for K-12, colleges and universities. 3. Create and provide media support materials for communities, families, and individuals impacted by coal. 4. On going public lecture and exhibition series across the United States. 5. Maintain and expand Question of Power web site and blog with stories and voices of communities impacted. 6. Establish and publish quarterly electronic magazine of educational stories. 7. Intern program with workshops to provide young emerging photographers skills to work within their communities. Public Outreach Highlights 2005-2011 Community Support Work: Visual voice stories for communities in New Mexico, Arizona, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Alabama Photographs used as supporting evidence in four major litigations in U.S. Federal court including desecration of family grave sites by mining, destruction of ceremonial sites, loss of grazing permits and extensive health problems caused by the mining and burning of coal on the Navajo Nation. The Federal Court ruling was in favor of the Navajo Elders. Placement of two computer systems in communities. Lectures, Exhibits, Presentations: TEDx, Plattsburg University, Bradley University, Fort Lewis College, Santa Monica College, College of Santa Fe, Seattle Central Community College, Santa Fe University, Santa Fe High School, Bokoshe Oklahoma Elementary School, Maine Media Workshops, Santa Fe Workshops, Anderson Ranch Center for the Arts, New Mexico Museum of Art, Open Shutter Gallery, Phil Space Gallery |
